Got some presents to buy? Entertaining over the festive period? Here’s a few local, Amsterdam Christmas shopping ideas for you … love Cathy x
The big pinterest board …
Favourite one-stop-shops …
Utrechtsestraat is the ultimate Christmas shopping street period. Haarlemmerdijk runs a close second. (And aren’t the Christmas Markets all about the glühwein? ?).
Shop by shop …
Kinderfeestwinkel | This children’s party shop in de Pijp is good for all sorts of Christmas decorations, including some charming festive paper straws.
Bijenkorf | The country’s most luxury department store is obvs a good bet if you want to do all your shopping in one place. And a massive range of fun baubles, if you can afford it.
Hudson’s Bay | This department store seems to have a lot less Christmas stuff on offer than Bijenkorf, but they do have candy canes.
The Maker Store | This is a cool store at De Hallen which sells a lot of products made locally in Amsterdam. They also hold regular weekend markets in the central space within De Hallen.
Eau D’Amsterdam | Stocked at The Maker Store, but also available online, they now have a special Vondelpark edition of their local perfume. I’d be stoked if someone got me this for Christmas (hint hint).
&Klevering | With three branches of this shop across town, they stock smartly designed homewares, as well as a good range of children’s gifts. Plus teckel crackers!
Patisserie Linnick | Excellent chocolaterie on the Amsterdamseweg. (Also good for Easter eggs. At Easter obvs.)
Goochem toy store | Wooden toys galore at my favourite children’s shop just off the Overtoom. Also a good range of dolls, jigsaws and musical toys.
HEMA | Not that special but handy for essentials, they have some great festive tablecloths for a bargain €4.
Van Soest | These local chocolatiers on the corner of Utrechtsestraat and Frederiksplein is a great gift stop. And you can grab a hot chocolate for yourself at the same time.
Dutch-themed Colouring Postcards | Designed by local culture expert, Tea, of Culture Tourist, you can order these via Etsy.com.
Zara Home | There’s usually a surprising amount of Christmas ideas within this small store near Museumplein.
Amsterdam cook books | There’s a growing range of Amsterdam cookery books to be found on bol.com, including an expensive option from the Rijksmuseum (just ignore the 1 star review, something about ultra thin pages). We like the one from local chef, Justin Brown.
