FROM 6 DEC
Cold War | DRAMA ROMANCE | BLACK & WHITE | POLAND | Dir: Pawel Pawlikowski (Ada) | A passionate and tempestuous love story, which begins in post war Poland. Top reviews all around. ► The trailer tells us it’s lusciously shot and there’s some beautiful jazz singing.
Kursk | DRAMA THRILLER | Dir: Thomas Vinterberg Matthias Schoenaerts, Léa Seydoux, Colin Firth e.a. | Real life tragedy of the men who died in a Russian submarine accident in 2000, told by an up and coming director and a strong cast. FROM 12 DEC
Ralph Breaks the Internet | ANIMATION | Voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Taraji P. Henson | Well-done sequel to Wreck-It Ralph, by all accounts.
FROM 13 DEC
Shoplifters | DRAMA | JAPAN | Dir: Hirokazu Koreeda | Lily Franky, Jyo Kairi, Ando Sakura | A poor family, relying on petty crime to get by, take in a young girl they find wandering the streets. Universally excellent reviews.
Anna and the Apocalypse | HORROR-COMEDY-MUSICAL | Dir: John McPhail | Writers: Alan McDonald, Ryan McHenry | with Ella Hunt | Schoolgirl Anna and her friends fight back the zombie apocalypse in her small UK town this Christmas. With a bit of a song and dance.
FROM 20 DEC
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse | ANIMATION | Dir: Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey + | A fresh new animation style and story for this familiar franchise. Good reviews.
Colette | PERIOD DRAMA & BIOPIC | LGBTQI | Dir: Wash Westmoreland | with Keira Knightley + | How a young French woman goes from ghostwriting for her husband, to literary and commercial success, to breaking out on her own terms.
Wildlife | DRAMA | Dir: Paul Dano | with Carey Mulligan, Jake Gyllenhaal | In 60s Montana a marriage slowly falls apart. Loved by critics, slightly less by audiences so far.
