Chris’ notes:

    • Who are the Amsterdam traitors? De Verraders is back and we’ve got Amsterdam celebs taking part. Sanne Vogel joins the cast – apparently able to judge every situation on its own merits – and Frederik Brom – critical and perservers
De Verraders starts 9 May at 8pm on RTL 4.
    • On 24 April, the city’s mayor, Femke Halsema will formally apologise to the Jewish community for the role of the municipality during the persecution of the Jews in the second world war. She’s also releasing €25 million to help promote the Jewish history of the city and relations with the community.
Amsterdammers have never been so unhappy with their homes.
    • The Central Bureau of Statistics this week released figures showing just 73% of people in the city are happy with where they live. That doesn’t sound bad but it’s the lowest since 2002 when the number was 75%. CBS does a survey every three years. 83% listed their places as ‘satisfactory’. People who are happiest are those over 75 or with homes larger than 150 sq metres.
    • The National Bee Count is happening again this weekend. 10-14 April inclusive. Not too late – download the form and count your bees for half an hour. That’s all it takes.
    • Emergency services all called out to Peppelerf in Amstelveen last night following the discovery of possible explosives in a garage lock up. It’s not sure how it came to be there either – big operation – bomb squad called in and the area cleared. Police are still investigating.
    • A man’s been attacked on Kinkerstraat as he got off the tram due to his sexuality. On Tuesday evening, around ten to midnight two people shouted gay slurs as he got off the tram. When he challenged them about it he was beaten up, suffering wounds to his face and upper-body. A passer-by ran to the man’s assistance and the suspects fled. Once home, the victim called the police and did not need to be treated in hospital.
    • 75% of pupils get their first choice school in the annual high school lottery. 75.24% is lower than last year when it was 76.1%. Kids used to be able to put 12 preferred school on the list, now it’s only 9. 91.4% got one of their top three schools and only 1% got the school that was last on their list. Used to have priority at school if you had a sibling there but that rule was scrapped in 2018. If you aren’t happy with the school you got, you can have another go.. Round 2 deadline is 15 April with the outcome being revealed on 17th.
    • Weed lovers who’ve been missing Terminator coffeeshop on the Admiraal de Ruiterweg will be pleased to hear that a new coffeeshop is coming soon in its place. Power Flower is to take over the licence. Terminator closed after it was targetted by a couple of explosions back in 2020. Residents aren’t too happy about it and 7 of them have complained to the mayor who will hear the complaints in the coming weeks.
    • Police say the body of a person found in the water on Westlandgracht in the city this week may be from the LGBHQ+ community. They say the person is of the male sex but on account of their appearance they’re uncertain how the individual self-identified. Authorities are still investigating the indicident and how the person got into the water. The person is 1.70 tall, with long black hair and was wearing black jogging pants and a cream-coloured top. Police hope someone in the community may recognise the description and be able to help identify the victim. They do not currently expect foul play.
    • Netflix’s “Adolescence” to be made available as part of a teaching package in NL by the National Sound and Vision Archive.
