Show notes from Chris:
- Spring equinox ends at 10.01 today
- Warmer weather than usual but it could turn cold again soon.
- Amsterdam has lowest percentage of drivers
- National hospital strike expected in April. No dates yet known.
- The Netherlands looking to attract leading scientists
- Millions of illegal cigarettes confiscated in Weert.
- Dutch cabinet urgently looking for ways to support industrial nederland, after a bunch of companies say they’re leaving.
- In Berlicum, protests overnight around the site of a proposed immigrant reception centre.
- Heathrow airport closed following a fire at a substation nearby. Close at least until 23.59 local time tonight.
- IOC (Olympics folk) choose Kirsty Coventry as the new chair of the international olympic committee. She is the first woman to hold the position – also the first African – she is currently the Zimbabwe government’s secretary for Sport.
- EU leaders in favour of the plan to rearm Europe. An awkward situation between Dik Schoof and the cabinet that arose seems to have passed, or a compromise reached.
- Butch and Sundance are back from space.
- Companies employing ZZPers try to push responsibilities for mistakes, errors etc on to the freelancer but they’re not really allowed to do so.
- Vicky Maeijer the minister for long term and social care and member of the PVV has been told she plaigiarised most of her thesis when she studied at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam – mostly due to poor citations with most of her statements not being backed up with sources. She says she’s disappointed as she never intended to cheat or mislead anyone.
- THAT’S MY JAM back on NPO1 again. This evening about 9.30. Fab stuff… BBC did it a couple of years ago. Love it. Omroep Zwart tonight on NPO1.
- Fijne Tafelzuren – De Leeuw. Like your amsterdam pickles? You will love these. More than just a pickled onion.
- Sabrina Carpenter at the Ziggo Dome this weekend
- Mayor, Femke Halsema, has closed a building in the Nieuw-West part of town which belongs to a foundation for elderly care. Not actually a care home – just one of their office buildings it seems… in January, police raided the building after reports of frequent late night activity. Apparently people were going into the building late at night for their own gambling activities… private poker parties or the like… According to the mayor, illegal gambling is bad for the community as it goes unsupervised… (and they can’t collect taxes on it).
