International Jazz Platform
Roma 15/05/2025
International Jazz Platform, an annual event combining a festival with open-to-the-public concerts and a conference/workshop space for participating musicians, was hosted by Bimhuis. For now, the platform continues in other countries this summer, but there’s still some good jazz in Amsterdam!
This interview with one of the participating musicians introduces the Jazz Platform—but really, it’s a conversation about the jazz scene in Amsterdam and the region.
Groningen-based Esat Ekincioglu performs in Amsterdam and the city regularly, as in his own words, the jazz scene in the North doesn’t really exist, with musicians being drawn to Amsterdam, where its traditions set the tone (no pun intended) for what jazz is and isn’t. Esat also gave me some great tips on initiatives to check out in the city (find links below). We close off the interview with a track by Kuhn Fu, one of the bands Esat is active in—so if you like the tune, you can surely catch them in A’dam and around! I can wholeheartedly recommend their live shows.
I hope to gradually fill in a go-to jazz map of Amsterdam for all the listeners who’ve missed hearing this genre on the radio. I sure love the genre, and hopefully can bring more jazz to BRAM this summer, so stay tuned!
